About The Pantry
It all started with an idea, The Plumstead Canteen. It just didn't sound right ?. Ash and Jules bounced around ideas for ages but with no success The Plumstead Canteen it was.
However, one very tiring night we read a book to our son, Chickens can't see in the dark, Little Pippa was on a mission to see in the dark and it was suggested that carrots would do the trick. Little Pippa took a trip to Mother hens 'Pantry' and there you have it, The Plumstead Pantry was born
As a pantry we keep things simple. We use the best seasonal, locally source food as we possibly can. We work very closely with our suppliers and in turn they work very hard to supply us the best produce they can.
We have a natural approach and will not use overly processed foods, we only use sourdough bread and our eggs come farm direct. We are sometimes rewarded by locals with produce from their allotments and the freshness, care and dedication to growing really show.
We like to use traditional fermenting, pickling, salting and jamming. They play strongly in our approach both on the menu and retail.
We like to take the waste not ethos into account using root to shoot and lesser know cuts. We also apply a levy of 15p on takeaway cup which most cafes include in the cost regardless if you drink in or take away.
